Heads of State recognise the work of the ACS in the Declaration of Punta Cana

The Heads of State and Government of the Member Countries of the Central American Integration System (SICA), in the framework of its XLIII Annual Meeting, held in the city of Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, on June 27, 2014, expressed appreciation to the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) for the revitalization of the dialogue process of the Greater Caribbean, and for continuing to strengthen existing ties to deepen cooperation in strategic areas agreed between SICA and the ACS. Similarly, the Declaration of Punta Cana, in item 6) instructs the "General Secretariat of the Central American Integration System (SICA) to continue to deepen institutional relations and cooperation with the Secretariats of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and the Association of Caribbean States (ACS). " As part of that meeting, the Dominican Republic concluded the Pro-Tempore of SICA presidency, which began in January 2014 and passed it on to Belize, who will perform such work during the second half of 2014. Likewise, Mrs. Dr. Victoria Marina Velasquez de Aviles was elected as the new Secretary General of SICA, who replaces Dr. Hugo Martinez. Dr. Martinez was recently appointed as Minister of Foreign Affairs of El Salvador.
