1st Meeting of the Legal Sub-commission of the Caribbean Sea Commission (CSC)

The Association of Caribbean States (ACS) convened the 1st Meeting of the Legal Sub-commission of the Caribbean Sea Commission (CSC) on the 13th of May 2016, in Port of Spain Trinidad. This Meeting brought together nationally nominated Legal Experts from Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Colombia and Jamaica. The Meeting featured a presentation by Dr. Judy Daniel (the Consultant) on the Report titled “The Legal, Financial and Economic implications of achieving ‘Special Area’ Status”. The discussions were centred on articulating the way forward for the attainment of Special Area Status, and the reporting of progress to the United Nations made regarding the implementation of on the United Nations Resolution A/69/216 “Towards the Sustainable Development of the Caribbean Sea for present and future generations” at the 71st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), which is scheduled for the 13-20th September 2016. The meeting informed the future activities of the CSC and the upcoming Plan of Action for the 7th Summit of Heads of State and/or Government themed “Together for Sustainable Caribbean”, in Havana Cuba on the 4th June 2016.
